Grow Up Australia! Sign the Petition for an R18+ Games Classification

Friday, February 5th, 2010

EB Games appears to have joined forces with the Grow Up Australia campaign and is promoting their petition to the Australian government to have a classification for games that matches the one we have for movies. The notable omission from our current game classification system is R18+.

Instead these games get an RC rating: Refused Classification. And since the government seems to be on the war path against Refused Classification material — the proposed mandatory web filter will prohibit RC material — it’s important to get an R18+ rating. And since the average age of Australian gamers is 30, it’s not like the children will suffer.

Hanging Out for BioShock 2

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

In preparation for BioShock 2 I’ve just completed BioShock. What a sizzler of an ending, man I didn’t see that one coming! Had me on the edge of my seat.

If there’s more of that in BioShock 2 then I’m sold.

EvEm:Reloaded

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

After many years of in-house training I decided to let the next generation of gamers (my kids) go with me to a LAN recently.

Thanks go to WoL and his crew for helping make their first outing (age 12 and 13.5) an enjoyable one.
We played some Codename Eagle and Unreal Tournament.
And yes, they made their Dad proud. :)

To celebrate, I’m releasing my UT Kids video from 6 years ago:

No dedicated server for COD:MW2? WTF !?

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Via Shacknews I learnt this morning that there will be no dedicated server for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Instead PC gamers will get a console-style game matching system.

Relic was right damnit. Consoles have a lot to answer for.

Battlefield Bad Company 2: Battlefield Moments – Episode 1

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Incredible! The dust and smoke, the explosions, the intensity, the sound occlusion, the swearing like a motherfucker!

Love the fact that your team mates are actually shouting at you, and there’s not an insane amount of radio chatter. Also, a big part of this game will be finding decent cover! Can’t hide behind a fence any more; it’ll get shot to pieces.

Drop that motherfucker!

Oh and I agree with Hip-Hop Gamer: It already kicks Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s arse… or should that be ASS!

Battlefield 2 Update v1.50

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Wow, who woulda thunk it? DICE have released a massive (1.9GB) update to Battlefield 2. There’s a huge list of changes, including proper Vista support, support for more than 2GB RAM, and many tweaks and fixes. I noticed the addition of an aim deviation when going prone, maybe that’ll spoil things for those annoying prone-hoppers…

Oh, forgot to mention they include new maps and the Euro Force and Armored Fury expansion packs totally free.

If you’re on iiNet download it from 3FL.

QuakeLive for Mac OS X is out!

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

QuakeLive is now available for Mac OS X and runs pretty sweet on my MacBook Pro. I had some trouble initially with window control, the screen would go black and I could hear the game, but not interact with it. That seems to have sorted itself out. I’ve had a few Firefox and Safari crashes as well because of the plugin.

MechWarrior 5 Gameplay Footage

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

I was totally blown away by how awesome this game looks. I was a big MechWarrior 2 fan, bought a Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick just for the game which had a throttle slider and torso twist on the stick. Check it out:

Kotaku reports that Harmony Gold, the owner of the Robotech brand, says the Mechs look a bit too similar to Robotech mechs!

[Update]: Updated the YouTube video, the previous one was removed by Harmony Gold!
