EvEm Website: Life on The Hog |

[EvEm]_Xtro - August 15, 2000 - 09:27:25 News: The EvEm Department: EvEm Website |
| |
...or as Matmos put it: "The Evem
website is sitting in the lap of luxury, sipping from the cup of favours.".
What I mean by all this is that EvEm has been moved to a dual pIII 700 machine
with LVD SCSI drives and a 2 meg link. And it's got the machine all to itself
:). This also meant an IP address change so I guess you may expect a bit of weirdness until your DNS is updated.
Oh and read Omen's updated Serious Sam Journal. It's seriously funny a haw haw haw! |

The EvEm Serious Sam Challenge |
 |
| |
[EvEm]_Xtro - August 14, 2000 - 17:26:45 News: The EvEm Department: Clan EvEm: Serious Sam |
| |
Omen has been bitching and moaning
around the office recently about how he can't finish the Serious Sam test
on Normal Level difficulty. Well you should have seen his face when I told
him that my Dad just finished it last night. My theory is that My Dad, Rebem and I, who have managed to finish
the test on Normal level, all benefit from being part of the Doom generation.
That is to say we've become highly skilled, after many many hours of playing
Doom on Ultra Violence level, at the highly frantic style of action of Serious
Sam. There are a number of skills that the current range of FPS games
don't provide but which Doom and it's ilk did. For example the wise use of
different ammo types with a view to conservation, knowing which monster of
the 50 currently bearing down on you to shoot next, knowing exactly how many
shots of each type of ammo will take down each type of enemy, knowing how
to slightly damage an enemy enough to distract it so you can focus on a more
pressing attacker. The difference is clear: while younger generation players, like Omen,
are wimping out pathetically bleating "But there's just too many of them.
I don't know who to kill first." or "I just keep on running out of ammo",
us old timers are just diggin' it saying "Yeah, Fuck Yeah! Bring it on MOFOS
! The more the merrier!". Omen, the now severely chagrined, has layed down the challenge. The
first to complete Serious Sam at Serious (Omen suggested hard, so I upped
the ante) level difficulty is the winner. I accept, now WHO'S WITH ME !?!?!??! YEAH! FUCK YEAH!!

GameSpy Tribes 2Interview |
 |
| |
[EvEm]_Xtro - August 11, 2000 - 12:55:36 News: The Gaming Department: Tribes 2 |
| |
GS Interviews Dave Georgeson the producer of Tribes 2 about ... wait for ... Tribes 2! He had this to say about going underwater: "GameSpy:
Earlier, D.G. said that air vehicles will 'fly' underwater, ground vehicles
will follow the bottom of the water, and that the environ. pack will be eliminated.
How does this affect the underwater gameplay?Dave Georgeson: It makes it much more probable. If you can take vehicles
underwater and you can fight down there for an extended period of time, you
become much more likely to experiment. Deep water can be very fun this way.
GameSpy: Will players still be limited to short trips underwater, or will they be able to stay under as long as they like?
Dave Georgeson: As long as they like.
GameSpy: Also, how will the air vehicles handle the transition from the air into the water?
Dave Georgeson: With a very big splash." How cool is that !?!?! |

Wireplay Interview Dean Sekulic of Croteam |
 |

[EvEm]_Xtro - August 10, 2000 - 22:08:41 News: The Gaming Department: Serious Sam |
| |
There's a great interview
with Dean Sekulic programmer and designer with Croteam, the makers of Serious
Sam (as if you didn't know). The interview has a few juicy tidbits: "When do you plan to bring out the next demo?
We're targeting middle of September, but can't be sure at this moment." "Are you going to have specially designed separate arenas for multi-player games?
Yes. We will have some deathmatch levels released with the game, and some will be in public test 2 version." "Could you tell us more about the multi-player game - what variations are you going to have on the old deathmatch style game?
Among standard DM options, we will have our own DM variation, called the
ScoreMatch. For now, all I can say is that this DM type drastically(!) changes
the way of DM play - and it rocks!" |

More about Doom 2 at Frag 4 |
 |
| |
[EvEm]_Xtro - August 10, 2000 - 08:10:12 News: The Gaming Department: id Software: Doom: CPL |
| |
Jerry Wolski of the CPL kindly answered a few brief questions I sent to him viw email: "Q:
Will any particular source port was going to be used or will it be the original
game? Will it be played at the original resolution? (300x200 I think)A: We will be using the standard doom2.exe, no mods, no jumping or any other silly stuff like that. Old school.
Q: Did the inspiration for this event come from the recent announcement from id to make a new version of Doom?
A: No. I did the first doom2 tournament at Frag 2, on October 1998.
It was an all-star invite-only tourney, and it was a very spectacular event.
This is going to be our second doom2 tourney, this time it will be open to
the public (although there are only 32 spots). -Jerry" |

[EvEm]_Xtro - August 09, 2000 - 22:52:04 News: The Gaming Department: id Software: Doom: CPL |
| |
Hey this interesting tidbit popped
into my inbox this evening it, seems there's a Doom 2 1 on 1 championship
being held at the Frag 4 event. Here's the gist of it: " The CPL
announces a DOOM II one-on-one tournament to be held at the Razer exhibition
booth at FRAG 4. Razer, the maker of the ultra-precise Boomslang Razer mouse,
and Compaq, the largest supplier of computing systems in the world, have
joined forces to offer a classic Doom II one-on-one deathmatch competition
at the CPL FRAG 4 event. A variety of merchandise prizes will be given to
the winners courtesy of Razer and Compaq...The Doom II one-on-one double-elimination tournament will be limited
to 32 participants and will be held at the Razer exhibition booth on identical
Compaq Presario 7900 Series computers. Read the complete press release: http://www.thecpl.com/press/doom2.html"
Wow, I think it's amazing. People say that Quake will never die. I belive
them, Doom lives on as an example of how it's possible. |

Doom Music Rumours: NiN again? |
 |
| |
[EvEm]_Xtro - August 09, 2000 - 13:23:56 News: The Gaming Department: id Software: Doom |
| |
AMDZone posted this about the Music for Doom 3: "After
the crowd had left, I asked John Carmack what the status of Trent Reznor
of Nine Inch Nails and Doom 3 was. Apparently, Trent very much wants to do
the music for Doom 3. Carmack added that a title soundtrack would also be
something they might do for Doom 3, such as done with Quake III, as well
as an opening theme like the Quake II introduction sequence. The music should
be more ambient as well than id's two previous games, Quake II and Quake
III. All those who are worried about not being able to hear enemies in the
game can breathe a sigh of relief, as this will also not be an issue with
Doom 3's music." Read it here |

The Stir About the New Doom |
 |
| |
[EvEm]_Xtro - August 07, 2000 - 12:39:46 News: The Gaming Department: id Software: Doom |
| |
Well just about every game news
website has a post about the tidbits Carmac offered in his QuakeCon speech
about the new Doom. And why should EvEm be any exception? But rather than
quote the already quoted, here are a few links to some good sources: I think the
best tidbit I heard was that there WILL be a test release. Yay! And the worst
thing I heard was that it will suXor the mostest on Voodoo 3 cards. But the
game is about a year and a half away so I should be fine :)[Update] Carmack has been speaking on Slashdot > whole thread | a big post |
